Eric Gordon scored 25 points to lead five of the Houston Rockets who scored 10 points or more to lead 118-112 to the Golden State Warriors in the absence of NBA star James Hardin.
The win was the second for the defending champions in three encounters this season after the Golden State win in a seven-game clash in the Western Division final in May.
Harden, who scored 30 points or more in 32 games in a row, was the second longest in the NBA.
After suffering from neck pain during Thursday's loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, Harden's participation in the game was questionable even before he felt flu-like symptoms on Saturday morning.
It is the fourth game that Hardin has missed this season. Rockets lost two of their first three games in the absence of Harden.
Chris Paul scored 23 points and 17 rebounds, Kenneth Fareed added 20 points and PJ Tucker had 18 points. The Rockets were 20 points clear at the end of the first half and regained their lead by 110-96 after a double from Clint Kabila five minutes and 42 seconds on the end.
Kevin Durrant scored 29 points with the Warriors and added Stephen Currie 25 and Clay Thompson 20. The Warriors lost only the third time in their last 20 games.
